10.32

Summary

On a summer evening, at precisely 10.32PM, Inspector Stroomer is informed that an emergency telephone call has been received at the police station.

Lex Martens, a wealthy barrister, has asked for help, saying that his life was in danger. Arriving shortly afterwards at the barrister’s office, the Inspector and his assistant Hofland find him laying dead behind his desk. They also discover a young painter, Peter Hartman, clutching a revolver in one hand and an envelope full of money in the other. The murder seems to be solved. Hartman refuses to make a sort of statement, even when Ellen, the young wife of the murdered man, admits having an affair with him. Inspector Stroomer needs all his acuity to thread his way through the subsequent maze of conflicting evidence to the final denouement of this psychological thriller.
