Filmfabriek Hollandia

Filmfabriek Hollandia was founded in Haarlem in 1914 as the successor to the Maatschappij voor Wetenschappelijke Cinematographie and the Maatschappij voor Artistieke Cinematographie.
The general manager of Hollandia was Julius Stoop, and Maurits H. Binger was appointed its deputy commissioner. The company had a film studio on the Antoniestraat in Haarlem.
Between 1914 and 1919, Filmfabriek Hollandia produced many long fiction films. The company made use of a regular group of actors and actresses, including Annie Bos and Adelqui Migliar. Most of the films were directed by Louis Chrispijn Sr. and Maurits Binger.
After this relatively successful period, Hollandia faced increasing competition from foreign films from 1919 onwards. In an attempt to break through internationally, Hollandia collaborated with the British firm Smith's Film Sales. This partnership, Anglo-Hollandia-film, produced several films that were not very successful. With the British distributor A.G. Granger, Binger then produced fourteen feature films under the name Granger-Binger-film.
Despite all attempts, they could not avert bankruptcy: on August 14, 1923, the Filmfabriek Hollandia was declared bankrupt. Eventually, the company was given up in 1928.
Hollandia had already divested itself of the Maatschappij voor Wetenschappelijke Cinematographie in 1919. On December 1, 1919, Julius Stoop, the co-manager and head of this section, honourably resigned. The department was then converted into the independent Ned. Mij. voor Cinematografie Filmfabriek Polygoon, as the film factory was officially called.
