Turks fruit

Summary

A sort of Dutch take on Love Story, but without the sentimentality. Paul Verhoeven's adaptation of Jan Wolkers’ best-selling novel broke all box office records. Humour and tragedy, violence and tenderness, love and death are all taken as much for granted as in real life.

A series of heart-rending anecdotes characterise the stormy affair between young sculptor Eric, sensitive and vulnerable underneath a rough exterior, and Olga, an equally unconventional redhead he meets while hitch-hiking. Their meeting is unusual and their parting just as bizarre. After her father dies, the couple slowly drift apart. When they reunite, Eric finds Olga has changed. Soon it becomes evident she is suffering from a brain tumor.
