F.A. Nöggerath Junior
Biography
Franz Anton Nöggerath Jr. was the son of the Amsterdam theatre operator and film producer Franz Anton Nöggerath Sr. In 1897, he was sent by his father to England to learn the film trade with The Warwick Trading Company, where he began in the laboratory, and as a cameraman in e.g. Norway and Iceland. In 1906, he founded his own company in England that handled print and development work for film companies.
Nöggerath Jr. returned to Amsterdam in December 1908 to join his stephmother in continuing as film exhibitors and distributors after Nöggerath Sr. died. Between 1909 and 1913, he also worked as a producer; he produced De greep, and in 1911 founded his own film studio near Sloten, where he made a total of fifteen films. Because the films were not very successful, the production stopped in 1913. Until the early 1920s, Nöggerath remained active as an exhibitor and distributor. He later left the film business and began working for a travel agency.
