Marguerite and Lolotte, accompanied by two apaches, visit a cabaret, where Lolotte performs the apache dance with Marguerite's lover. Marguerite, her rival, is arrested and sent to prison. She attempts to escape but is seen by a sentry. She exercises her arts upon him, endeavouring to persuade him to let her escape. He orders her back to her cell, but she is unable to return.
