Henk van der Linden
Biography
Henk van der Linden was a director, screenplay writer and producer of Dutch films for young people. He had his own production company, Rex Film. Using simple production means, with a small budget and the help of friends and acquaintances who acted in his films, Van der Linden made nearly 40 feature films. No other filmmaker has made more Dutch feature films. He was very successful and over a period of 30 years, his films drew millions of viewers. The stories for his films were usually based on well-known characters from children's literature such as Billie Turf, Sjors and Sjimmie, and Dik Trom. The film Nieuwe avonturen van Dik Trom made in 1958 was given special mention in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest-running Dutch feature film ever: the film played for 28 continuous years in the cinema. Henk J. van der Linden was also the first Dutch filmmaker to ever make a Western, De jongen uit het wilde westen. Just as all the of his other work, this film was shot near his home in Thull in southern Limburg.
