Kind van de zon
Summary
In Dutch films there has always been a sharp division between the realism of the documentary and the imaginative fantasy of fiction. As a result, cinéma vérité was resorted to in a feature film practically only if one was after some humorous effect. This unspoken rule was broken in making Kind van de zon.
The documentary material, about a young girl who becomes temporarily deranged, was given dramatic form in a scenario which resulted in a particularly moving film.
There are also two excellently portrayed main roles: the girl who goes mentally off the rails but who, after two years of psychiatric treatment, is able to return to society, cured, played by Josée Ruiter, and the mother, impressively portrayed by Dora van der Groen.
