Rondom het Oudekerksplein

Summary

Following a method often used on television of combining monologues and interviews with visual impressions not necessarily having a synchronized relationship with the soundtrack, Roeland Kerbosch set out to give an impression of Amsterdam's 'red light district', right in the heart of the Old City around the historic Old Church.

The director himself says that he did not want to make a 'research documentary', to point to causes or draw conclusions, but was solely concerned with showing facts and giving information. The central figure in his film is 'Herring Harry' a colourful personality of the district, whom he uses as a guide to show the viewer round an unusual milieu with its own customs and its own moral values.
