Onkruidzaaiers in Fabeltjesland
Summary
Feature film based on the popular Dutch doll animation television series De fabeltjeskrant.
Every evening at early bedtime, Leen Valkenier, like a modern La Fontaine, tells his fables to young and old TV viewers, never leaning on the moral side too heavily. Adventures of Mr. Owl and his neighbours in the woods are set down in the Little Fable Newspaper. Broadcast in five minute segments, the television series enjoyed an extremely wide audience in the Netherlands and is still much-loved. Several other countries have also taken on the little fable series. The main secret to its success is that all of the animals are clearly defined characters representing archetypes that even children unconsciously are familiar with. Few human habits are missing among the animal cast whose conversations spill out from snouts and beaks in amusing dialect.
The TV series led to this full-length film for movie houses. With bright colours and strong imaginary, and lots of music and suspense besides, this is a treasure trove for all lovers of puppet animation and allows the viewer to look at human behaviour with fond amazement.
