Bezoek van het koninklijke echtpaar aan Amsterdam

Summary

Reportage about the Dutch royal family’s visit to Amsterdam in 1921.

This reportage shows the royal ride from Amsterdam’s Central Station to Dam Square, on April 15, 1921. From the balcony of the Royal Palace, the Queen waves to her people. The family then visits an exhibition of South African art. We also see the family returning from a tour of the steamship Johan de Witt, and after their visit to the Stedelijk Museum. Of note are the street dogs that try to squeeze between the royal party.Queen Wilhelmina's annual visits to the capital were filmed from the earliest years at the turn of the century. In the beginning, Franz Anton Nöggerath had this footage shot for his theatre Variété Flora. Not much later, the ‘court filmers’ Willy Mullens and Filmfabriek Polygoon began filming the visits and tours of the Queen, which they would continue doing for decades.
