Aankomst der Boeren-Generaals

Summary

In August and September 1902 the Boer generals Louis Botha, Christian de Wet and Koos de la Rey visited the Netherlands. Together they led the fight against the British during the Boer War in South Africa. After the British victory, they traveled to Europe to raise funds for the restoration of the devastated country.
F. A. Nöggerath had a film made of the visit of the generals to The Hague on 20 August 1902 - and shown on the same day in his Amsterdam theatre Flora, a feat that was reported extensively in the 'Nieuws van de Dag' newspaper. A week later, this film was probably lost in the fire that reduced the Flora theatre to ashes.

The footage of the visit of the generals to the Amsterdam Paleis voor de Volksvlijt building was taken shortly after the fire.
