Hollandsche Film
history
Hollandsche Film is the name of the independent Dutch production subsidiary of the film giant Pathé Frères.
This subsidiary produced films for a foreign audience, and only a small number of them were also shown in the Netherlands. In the films, much attention was paid to what foreigners considered typical Dutch couleur locale, including fishermen, windmills, tulips, and traditional costumes.
Between 1911 and 1913, Hollandsche Film made fourteen short feature films. Thirteen of these films were directed by the Belgian Alfred Machin, who worked with an almost entirely Belgian-French cast and crew.
Only the first film that was released, Het vervloekte geld, had a Dutch actor in the lead role, namely the renowned Louis Bouwmeester.
