Le dévouement du berger Johannes
Summary
The rich farmer Rosendaal wants his daughter Molda to marry the son of the local miller. Molda warns Micris, the young peasant she loves, of the danger that threatens their happiness. Under the protection of Johannes, an old shepherd, the young girl and Micris continue to meet each other in secret. Rosendaal learns of their rendezvous and of the shepherd's help. Under a pretext, he sends Johannes away, so that he can revenge himself on Micris. However, worried by a premonition, the shepherd goes back to the farmstead and there receives the bullet that was intended for Micris. As he lies dying, Johannes manages to get from Rosendaal his consent to the marriage of the young couple whose happiness he has paid for with his life.
