Jacques decides to apply for a job at the Exhibition and learns that there are three vacancies: as ticket-inspector, as fireman and as cyclist messenger. As ticket-inspector he fails because he pays so much attention to the young ladies that many visitors can enter without paying. As fireman he only succeeds in falling into a pond. Discouraged, he leaves the Exhibition grounds.
