Jacques op de Tilburgsche kermis
Summary
A customer he is shaving tells Jacques so much about the Exhibition that the hair-dresser's assistant wants to participate. In his enthusiasm he lathers the customer's face completely. Jacques decides to apply for a job at the Exhibition and learns that there are three vacancies: as ticket-inspector, as fireman and as cyclist messenger. As ticket-inspector he fails because he pays so much attention to the young ladies that many visitors can enter without paying. As fireman he only succeeds in falling into a pond. Discouraged, he leaves the Exhibition grounds.
In town he meets a group of Hussars and decides to join them, but the first time he mounts a horse he is thrown off. So back he goes to the Exhibition to see if he can be more successful as messenger. Once again he is out of luck. Sadly he returns to his former employer.
