Keetje Tippel

Keetje Tippel (Cathy Tippel) is a historical character, who lived in Amsterdam during the 19th century.

Keetje came from the northern province of Frisia, with her father, mother and small sisters. Continually beset by difficulties, she succeeds in working her way up from extreme poverty, to eventually find romance and wealth. Forced into prostitution by her mother, in later life she proves more than a match for the men in her life.

Blonde Greet immortalised for Dutch readers in the novels of actor-author Albert Mol, is the Irma la Douce type of prostitute with a heart of gold - simple, clever and witty all at once. Piet Römer plays the irresistible social worker in this quick, colourful farce about the ladies of Amsterdam nights and their guardian angels, and their often-harassed costumers.

First and only feature length film directed by lyricist Lennaert Nijgh in which a young man tries to come to terms with his father’s wartime past.

A student has written a play for his school’s annual theatre performance. When it turns out that the boy has exposed his father’s dubious behaviour during the war, the question that has to be asked is: should the play be staged or not?

Wet Dreams

Episode film with 14 short erotic films.

Under the direction of Max Fischer, a number of directors, photographers and artists made short erotic films, films that distinguish themselves from exploitative sex films by the artistic or subversive way they approach the subject of the erotic. The directors involved include: Nicholas Ray, Lasse Braun (using the pseudonym Falcon Stuart), Dusan Makavejev (listed in the credits as Sam Rotterdam) and Jens Jörgen Thorsen. The Dutch contributions were made by Geert Kooiman and he painter Hans Kanters.

Commissioned by the Nederlands Volksherstel about the Resistance during the Second World War and the solidarity that is needed for the reconstruction of the Netherlands.

Samen op weg is a partially staged documentary about the German occupation of the Netherlands – about the resistance movement and the hardships people faced during the war. Furthermore the film makes an appeal for the people of the Netherlands to work together to rebuild their devastated country. The film ends with a portrait of Queen Wilhelmina.

Three families are preparing for an evening of Saint Nicholas cheer. Each of the families is having problems. One couple, an ad agency man and his wife are growing apart. Another, intensely respectable couple is having trouble coping with their wayward son. The husband in the third couple is an incorrigible womaniser who nevertheless tries to patch things up with his wife.

An American scholar comes to Amsterdam for a gerontology conference. He meets a Dutch colleague he’s friends with who tells him he has developed a serum to extend life indefinitely. After the Dutchman commits suicide the next day, the American starts to investigate what happened. He has an affair with his colleague’s ex-girlfriend and meets a secretive Swiss pharmaceutical manufacturer, played by Klaus Kinski.

The portrait of a brief but tumultuous love affair between a young woman and a man about the same age, 30, whose style of life is utterly different. Pierre is a successful businessman, a 'modern conservative'. Toni is a hairdresser with a company of revue artists, living in a far less protected world. The people she moves among are different from Pierre's rather formal friends. They find it fairly easy to disregard existing norms. But Toni's non-conformism arouses Pierre's interest.
