De opfiering fen Fryske trou te Dokkum ter gelegenheid van de winkelweek
Summary
Reportage about the festivities during Dokkum’s ‘shopping week’.
On the occasion of the festivities during Dokkum’s ‘shopping week’, the cinema company Welte’s Kinematograph filmed the goings-on. We see the performance of the allegorical play ‘Friesan Loyalty’, a promotional parade through downtown Dokkum, and an aubade to the Mayor, performed by a local band. As was often the case with local films like this one, the cameraman devotes considerable attention to filming the audience.
The performance of ‘Friesan Loyalty’ in Dokkum is one of the few self-made films by Welte’s Kinematograph, which was run by Laura Welte and her sons. After the death of her husband (the German travelling cinema operator and owner Carl Welte), she returned to the Netherlands from Germany and re-started his company. Welte's Kinematograph travelled by motorboat throughout the northern Netherlands, and screened films in the countryside.
