De Arnhemsche medeminnaars
Summary
Hans and Pieter, brothers, both woo Anna, who chooses the latter. A dance is held to celebrate the engagement, and the only shadow is caused by the sudden demeanour of Hans. At the conclusion of the festivities, as Pieter walks across the lock bridge, Hans swings the lock gates open and his brother falls into the water. His form is seen by some canal people, who pull him out of the water unconscious. When he recovers, he refuses to answer any questions, and a reformation is effected in Hans who recognizes the nobility of his brother.
