Wim Verstappen
Biography
Wim Verstappen was a Dutch film and television maker, producer and screenplay writer. In 1961 he started at the Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam. Shortly thereafter he joined the editorial board of the magazine Skoop, which had been started up by Pim de la Parra, Nikolai van der Heyde and Gied Jaspars. Verstappen made a number of films with Pim de la Parra through their joint production company called Scorpio Films.
Inspired by the French nouvelle vague, the duo made their debut in 1966 with the low-budget film De minder gelukkige terugkeer van Joszef Katús naar het land van Rembrandt. After that, more films quickly followed. Their biggest commercial success was the erotic Blue Movie, which sold more than 2.3 million tickets at the time. After the production of Wan Pipel in 1976, De la Parra and Verstappen split up.
Other films by Verstappen are the soap-like family drama VD, the airplane adventure film entitled Dakota, the war film Pastorale 1943 and a police film, De ratelrat.
