Biography
Bart Vegter studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Eindhoven, and spent several years working as a researcher at Shell and Philips, and as a teacher at a secondary school. Beginning in the mid-1970s, Vegter began concentrating entirely on film. For several years, he followed the workshops of Frans Zwartjes at the Vrije Academie in The Hague, and in 1981 he completed his first film, Horizontalen.
In the subsequent years, Vegter built up an oeuvre of nine films, all of which can be characterized as abstract films, a genre in which Vegter and Joost Rekveld are the most important Dutch representatives.
Vegter, who lived and worked in Rotterdam, died in 2011.
