Summary
Children’s film about emigration and a broken friendship
A Frisian family is preparing to emigrate to Australia. Son Peter doesn’t want to go because he will have to leave his friend Maartje and his little dog Kwikkie behind. When the fateful day comes, Maartje and Peter hide Kwikkie in a bag but just as they are about to go on board, Kwikkie escapes. Peter goes after him and gets lost in Rotterdam harbour. Peter and his dog are found in the end and the boy is allowed to take his dog with him. Maartje makes friends with a new family that moves into the village. The part of Maartje is played by Maartje van der Heyden, director Jef van der Heyden’s daughter.
