Summary

Report of a long journey of the Regout family through Africa. In 1951 Theo Regout left for Africa with his wife Luise and their children. They would be traveling the continent for about eighteen months.

The children travel along part of the journey - in the Belgian Congo, they enroll in a missionary school.
Subsequently, while crossing the Sahara, Theo and Luise run out of gasoline. They camp in the ruins of an ancient fortress for more than a week, waiting for help from passing Bedouins. After the family is reunited, they visit a tribe of pygmy people in southern Africa .

On the return trip to the Netherlands, they visit Seville and Paris.
