Filmfabriek Polygoon

In 1919 trok Jules Stoop zich terug uit de in moeilijkheden verkerende Filmfabriek Hollandia. Hij wilde een eigen filmfabriek oprichten die op reguliere basis een bioscoopjournaal zou vervaardigen. Ook wilde hij zich richten op de productie van documentaires.
De inventaris en klanten die Stoop bij zijn vertrek van Hollandia had meegenomen vormden de basis van zijn op 1 november 1919 opgerichte Nederlandsche Maatschappij voor Cinematografie Filmfabriek Polygoon. Stoop was de eerste directeur van het bedrijf.
Aanvankelijk vervaardigde de filmfabriek hoofdzakelijk titelkaarten voor stille films, maar toen Stoop in december 1921 het bedrijf gedesillusioneerd verliet en B.D. Ochse de leiding overnam, groeide Polygoon al snel uit tot een bloeiende maatschappij. Polygoon produceerde een groot aantal documentaires en het wekelijkse bioscoopjournaal Hollandsch Nieuws.
Naast journaals en documentaires over Nederland produceerde Polygoon ook een aantal films over Nederlands-Indië. Voor deze producties werd een eigen maatschappij opgericht: de Nederlandsch-Indische Film Maatschappij.
Polygoon bleef tot 1987 producent van Nederlands belangrijkste - en lange tijd enige - bioscoopjournaal, vanaf 22 mei 1945 als Polygoon-Profilti-Producties. Deze samenwerking met Profilti kwam tijdens de Tweede Oorlog onder dwang tot stand, maar werd na de bevrijding voortgezet.
