Vijfhonderd jaar St. Antoniusgilde

Reportage about the celebrations for the St. Anthony's Guild in Beek en Donk.

In 1520, for the Saint Anthony Abbot, an altar was dedicated in the St. Martin church in Beek en Donk. It had long been assumed that 1520 was also when the St. Anthony’s Guild had been established. But recent research has shown that a guild already existed in 1490. But because the inhabitants of Beek en Donk in 1920 still believed that the guild dated from 1520, the event was widely commemorated. The film shows the historical pageant, and flags are waved.

Leger- en vlootfilm

Propaganda Film About the Dutch Military.

Holland neutraal (Neutral Holland) is this film’s subtitle, which was meant to show that the Dutch armed forces are very much prepared to guarantee the Netherlands’ neutrality in World War One. The more than 2.5-hour film was made by Willy Mullens in 1917, when other Western European armies had become numbed after three long years in the trenches. The footage in the Army and Navy Film depicts a relatively high-spirited mood, considering how the Dutch military had mobilized but not actually participated in the war.

Het 25-jarig regeeringsjubileum van H.M. koningin Wilhelmina

Documentary on the occasion of Queen Wilhelmina’s 25th anniversary of rule.

This anniversary film, compiled by Haghe Film, consists mainly of footage that Willy Mullens had shot of the royal family in previous years. The film includes e.g. footage of the solidarity demonstration that took place on the Malieveld in The Hague in November of 1918. It also includes excerpts from Mullens' Leger- en vlootfilm (1917).
