Ergens in Nederland
Summary
Romantic drama taking place on the eve of the Second World War.
Lawyer Frans van Loon and his wife Nel are having a difficult time. Frans works hard to pay for the house while Nel feels dissatisfied and neglected. When Frans is called up and volunteers to join the mine clearance service he doesn't want to worry his wife and keeps it from her. His secretiveness leads Nel to believe he doesn't love her anymore. She subsequently falls for the charms of an actor. When Frans finds out, a violent quarrel ensues and Nel storms out, fully convinced that the actor cares more for her than her husband. She soon finds out she's wrong and returns to her husband.
Dutch novelist Jan de Hartog wrote the screenplay and played the part of the lawyer. In spite of some enthusiastic reviews, the role would remain his only venture into the world of film acting.
