On July 12, 1920, the Gemeentelijke Schoolbioscoop was opened in a small hall within the Scheepvaartkundig Museum in Rotterdam.
The director of the Gemeentelijke Schoolbioscoop was the film fan and former teacher A.M. van der Wel. With this cinema, he wanted to supplement the lessons that were given in primary education. The Gemeentelijke Schoolbioscoop was accessible to schools of all kinds.
