Biography

Dutch limonade manufacturer and film producer. Eduard IJdo was the son of the Leiden printer E.H. IJdo, founder of the Stoom-, Boek- and Steendrukkerij Eduard IJdo. He started his career at Willy Mullens' company Haghe Film.

Together with the Berlin-based Filmindustrie und Handel AG, at the beginning of the 1920s IJdo's film company OFO Film produced the film De man op de achtergrond, based on a novel by the Dutch detective writer Ivans (a pseudonym for Jacob van Schevichaven). In addition to producing, IJdo also wrote screenplays and acted in films. As far as is known, De man op de achtergrond is the only film that OFO produced.

In the mid-1920s, IJdo lived for several years in the Dutch East Indies.

His name again appears in Dutch film history in the autumn of 1928, when he and Piet Köhler announced their intent to begin a film factory called IFI (Internationale Filmindustrie). The company was located in the Schiedam complex of film company Eureka, which had been empty since the death of its general manager André Boesnach. The plan was to make advertising and corporate films. In 1929, IFI produced several advertising films, but afterwards nothing more was heard from the company. IJdo died at the beginning of 1931 after a long period of illness.
