Vijftig jaren

Summary

Film made on the occasion of Queen Wilhelmina’s Golden Jubilee. Five episodes sketch out what life was like in the Netherlands during Queen Wilhelmina’s 50-year reign.

In the first part we see the life of a modern farmer in Friesland; this is followed by images of a harbour installation in Amsterdam. The third part is filmed at a farm in Brabant and the fourth shows Walcheren, which was ravaged by floods during the Second World War. The land was destroyed by flooding caused after the sea dikes were bombed, but after the war it is rebuilt. For the last episode, we are on board a fishing boat from Scheveningen. In conclusion, the Reverend Molenaar speaks to his congregation from the pulpit.

The different stories are all illustrated with documentary images.
