From the very first days of film, filmmakers were quite interested in unique communities with unusual dressing styles, lifestyles, and architecture. They travelled the whole world to film these communities, and in the Netherlands they mainly filmed in Volendam, Marken, Zeeland, and the typical Dutch polder arrears.
