Ongewijde aarde

Summary

A fairground operator becomes involved in a bitter dispute with a Brabant village priest, who refuses to permit him to re-bury his father in consecrated ground.

A father has committed suicide in the depression years and the Church has denied him a Catholic burial. His son seeks to rectify this perceived injustice. When the priest dies of the effects of having flown into a rage during one of their heated arguments, the son secretly transfers his father’s remains to the grave dug for the priest. The following day he witnesses the Church authorities’ unwitting rehabilitation of the father.
