Het klompje van Marietje

Summary

Marietje is going fishing with her father when she discovers that her wooden shoe is broken. With the aid of a strip of iron and a couple of nails it is mended and together father and daughter set out. During the afternoon Marietje wanders away picking flowers. A stray shot from the gun of a man shooting wild duck strikes her in the leg. Unable to walk, she tears a page from a book she carries and, writing a note to her father, places it in her wooden shoe. This she puts in the river, and has the satisfaction of seeing it float away downstream. In due course the shoe reaches its destination and Marietje's father, recognizing his daughter's shoe, brings it to the bank and discovers the note. Ten minutes later, Marietje is found and brought back to her home.
