Edam onafhankelijkheidsfeesten
Summary
Reportage about the independence celebrations in Edam.
In 1913, the anniversary to mark one hundred years since the end of the French occupation was commemorated: Napoleon's defeat in Leipzig marked the end of the French annexation of the Netherlands. On November 30, 1813, Prince William of Orange returned to the Netherlands, and in 1815, the United Kingdom of the Netherlands was proclaimed, with the Prince as its first King.
In 1913, the return of the royal family was commemorated with historical parades throughout the Netherlands. The film Edam Independence Celebrations shows the parade in the town of Edam. Both historical and allegorical characters ride along in the procession.
