De Wieringermeer - juli 1948
Summary
Images of the recovery of the Wieringermeer polder after the Second World War.
Images of the Wieringermeer polder and its villages Middenmeer, Slootdorp and particularly Wieringerwerf. The film revolves around the aftermath of the flood of 1945, when retreating German troops had blown up parts of the Wieringermeer dyke.
The film shows how the work in this area goes beyond recovery and reconstruction, and shows how new infrastructure is built. Many images are in a 'before' and 'after' sequence: from battered ruins to large barns, from temporary accommodation in wooden sheds to a brick school. The film ends with images of a sun-drenched wheat harvest.
