Dai xiang li dai nao ou zhou

Summary

Chinese martial arts film made in the Netherlands.

The Western setting was intended to reach a more international public. Tang Shan comes to the Netherlands from Hong Kong. Unbeknownst to him, he’s being used as a courier. As soon as he discovers this, he destroys the package – after which he comes into conflict with the local boss of the underworld, the Godfather. Tang runs and he and a friend start a martial arts academy where they teach kung fu. When Tang’s girlfriend is kidnapped, tortured and killed by the Godfather, he is intent upon revenge. One for one he kills all the gangsters, saving the Godfather for last. Two versions of the film were made: an edited version for the Chinese market and another one for the Western market with somewhat more nudity. In the latter version the hero also dies; in the Chinese version, only the Godfather is killed.
