Boy

Summary

Fourteen-year-old Boy is a happy and seemingly healthy schoolboy. When it is discovered that he is suffering from a form of tuberculosis, he is sent to a sanatorium in Leysin, Switzerland, to take a cure.

Eighteen months later he comes back home, his health completely restored. The illusion Boy had while in Switzerland that, upon his return to Holland, everything would be the same as when he first went to the sanatorium, changes into a great disillusion. At school he is put in a lower class and he finds that he and his former mates have drifted apart and are almost total strangers to each other. Fortunately, Boy has the strength of character to adjust himself to the new situation and look forward to a sunny future.
