Filma
history
The film rental agency Filma was founded in 1914 by P.G. Bedijs and Ed. Pelster. In the first years of its existence, the company was a very active film distributor.
From 1917 onwards, the 'Bioscoop-Courant' even included a separate ‘weekly Filma report' (a leaflet about the films distributed by Filma).
Around 1920, Filma also tried to become a production company, but a collaboration with Jules Stoop of Filmfabriek Polygoon failed to yield any positive results.
At the end of 1921, Filma fell into financial difficulties, and in May 1922 Bedijs left the company, followed by Pelster four months later.
In the same year, Filma was taken over by P.R. van Duinen. On October 29, 1922, he registered the company with the Chamber of Commerce in Amsterdam as N.V. Filma, Bureau voor de Cinematografie, a subsidiary of the Firma P.R. van Duinen.
