Katwijk (South Holland)

A Dutch newsreel including items on sports divers who are looking for remnants of Brittenburg castle, the Dutch Cinema Association's special gift voucher and a lecture on the evolution of ballet.

The sea gives and has made a rich man of Bos, the owner of a fishing fleet, a hard businessman with a haughty wife and a sympathetic daughter.

Because he is out of work, a young fisherman is forced to stay on land. First he loses his few possessions and then his sweetheart to her neighbour, a pawnbroker.

Moving drama set in a fishing village, based on Herman Heijermans’ well-known play.
