Biography
Nouchka van Brakel is a Dutch filmmaker. She graduated in 1964 from the Netherlands Film Academy and has (co-)directed more than 20 films since then. At the end of the 1960s she made a number of light-hearted childrens films, including De baby in de boom (1969). In the 1970s, she was assistant director for Paul Verhoeven's film Turks Fruit and she drew attention with her short film Een winkelier keert niet weerom in the four-part film Zwaarmoedige verhalen voor bij de centrale verwarming. Later she would become best known for two costume dramas: Van de koele meren des doods (after the eponymous novel by Frederik van Eeden) and Aletta Jacobs: het hoogste streven.
