Horizontalen
Summary
The illusion of perspective depth is one of the means by which the spectator is fooled. This is a film without an external subject; there is only light and movement. Like sunlight, reflected through waves of water onto a white wall.
By moving this plane, and by exposing the film eight times, an image is created of horizontal stripes in various shades of grey. Rhythm and colour play an important role, which is remarkable because this is a black and white film.
Bart Vegter was a strong believer in the cinematic power of experiencing his films projected on the big screen. Please consider this while watching the digital representation of the original work.
