Biography

Cornelis Lely was a Dutch civic engineer and politician. In a number of cabinets, he took on the post of Minister of Agriculture, Industry and Trade. From 1902 to 1905, he was the Governor of Suriname.

As the head of technical research for the Zuiderzeevereniging, Lely wrote a number of reports between 1887 and 1892 about the impoldering of the Zuiderzee.
