Cesar, de geschiedenis van een trekhond

Summary

The film, a mixture of documentary and drama, is propaganda for the Anti-trekhonden Bond; a society against the use of draught dogs.

Johan, the son of a well-to-do family from 't Gooi, is very fond of his dog Cesar. When Johan goes abroad for some time, his family gives the dog to a local tenant because his stepmother fears it might become uncontrollable. In spite of his promise to look after the dog, the tenant sells the dog to a street vendor, who first maltreats Cesar and then sells him. Meanwhile Johan is looking forward to returning home and seeing Cesar again.

Johan's parents, feeling guilty for what they have done, try everything to find Cesar again. During their search the many abuses draught dogs are subjected to are shown. In the mean time, Cesar manages to escape and finds his way home by himself. The family repents and decides to apply to the Anti-trekhonden Bond for membership.
