Biography

Henry Grünkorn was a German carnival and cinema operator in Ghent. From 1897 to 1908, he travelled with his film theatre to Dutch and Belgian carnivals and fairs. Grünkorn used a Lumière cinematograph (an early movie projector) that ran on electricity. He showed films by the Lumière brothers, as well as his own locally shot films.

In 1902, he sold his business to the Dutch businessman Willem Fortuin. Under Fortuin’s name, Grünkorn remained active as a travelling exhibitor until 1908.
