Biography
Guido Pieters graduated cum laude from the Netherlands Film and Television Academy in 1970.
Since then he has written and directed feature films and television dramas, including for German television. While a student, he made the short films Angela, Carnaval and Allerzielen. He worked as an assistant to the director Bert Haanstra. His first feature film, Vaarwel, was praised at the festivals in Edinburgh and London. After that, Pieters made a documentary about the veneration of Mary. His next feature film, Doctor Vlimmen, which received mixed reviews in the Netherlands, was crowned with a gold medal at the Miami International Film Festival in 1978.
