Biography
Frans van de Staak studied at the Nederlandse Filmacademie. He founded the magazine Cinécri, and then worked as an engraver and graphic designer. Beginning in the mid-1970s, he produced his first films, which focus on investigating space, language, and movement. Beginning in the 1980s, Van de Staak also made long experimental films, in which language and literature are the main themes.
He has also produced films for other filmmakers, and has assisted young filmmakers in making their first films.
In 1996, he received the L.J. Jordan Prize for his film Schijnsel.
