Biography

David van Kreveld was the owner of Lichtbeeldendienst De Voorkeur (also known as De Ontwikkeling), a company that made slides for educational and promotional purposes.

Van Kreveld was also part of several interest groups for the photography industry, and in the mid-1930s was on the board of the Cultuurfilmcentrale.

In the mid-1920s, Van Kreveld directed in a number of short advertising and corporate films for De Voorkeur. For the political party Sociaal Democratische Arbeiders Partij (SDAP), he made films including the animated film Een Toovernacht, oproerige filmkrabbels uit de krantenwereld. In February of 1923, 'De Voorkeur' published the first issue of the monthly magazine ‘Het Lichtbeeld’.

This magazine focused on Dutch educational and scientific films, and how these films (and slides) could be used for ‘education, upbringing and community development’. The editor of 'Het Lichtbeeld' was David van Staveren, who also the general manager of the Haagse Schoolbioscoop, as well as the first Chairman of the Commissie voor de Filmkeuring , established in 1928. 'Het Lichtbeeld' continued until 1933, and then became the in-house magazine of the Nederlandsch Centraal Filmarchief.
