Ben van Lieshout
Biography
Ben van Lieshout trained as a film sociologist at the University of Utrecht, and studied under Frans Zwartjes at the Vrije Akademie in The Hague.
Van Lieshout debuted in the early 1980s with a number of films that he shot on Super8. One of these films, the long fiction film Het licht van Cadiz from 1983, was enlarged to 16mm format in order to be screened in cinemas. In the following years, Van Lieshout has built up a considerable body of work with the feature films Passagiers (1990) and De verstekeling (1997), and documentaries such as De zone (1999), Winkelhart (2001), Petersburg, Places and Paintings (2004), and Locatie TusseNLand (2006). In 2007, the feature film De Muze was released.
In addition to being a director and producer, Van Lieshout is also a lecturer at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht.
