Mijntje en Trijntje op de schaats

Summary

It is winter and all the canals are frozen over. Mijntje and Trijntje decide to skate from Amsterdam to Volendam where they have arranged to meet their gentlemen friends in a café. On the way, one of Trijntje's skates becomes loose. The girls cannot fasten it, but they receive help from two young men from Volendam. The four young people skate off together. In the café they drink some black-currant gin to warm them up. When the boyfriends arrive, the girls pretend that they do not know them and that their attentions are unwelcome. One of the Volendammers threatens the city chaps with a knife and a scuffle ensues in which other café guests take part. In the general confusion, Mijntje, Trijntje and their boyfriends manage to escape unobserved. Jumping into the goods-van of the steam train, they return to Amsterdam.
