Fantasy in Fiction

Summary

Surreal looking film about a shy window dresser who projects his fantasies onto the shop window dummies.

Rob lives in the country and hardly meets people. One night he is told that the old aristocrat with whom he used to play chess has died. The man has left him his chess set. Van Rijn’s foster daughter comes to see him. Rob was in love with her once but has not seen her for a long time. What does she want? It turns out it is the king from the chess set, made from solid gold.

Director Jan Dorresteijn is better known as the co-producer of films like Help, de dokter verzuipt and De dwaze lotgevallen van Sherlock Jones, both directed by Nikolai van der Heyde. Critics praised the photography and the sound effects of this surreal-looking film.
