De blikjesman

Summary

A man is trying to put empty cans into his torn coat pockets. There appear to be more and more cans lying on the street.

The films of Jaap Pieters are rarely more than three minutes long - the length of a Super-8 cartridge. Likewise, they are nearly always filmed as a long shot, an observation of the environment in which Pieters lives: Amsterdam, particularly in De Pijp.

Pieters makes small miniatures out of everyday life. But it is a life that most people ignore because they do not look closely. But through the eyes of the filmmaker, these become small dramatic sketches that show people’s loneliness.
