#23.2

Summary

‘This film is part of a cycle of five’, says Joost Rekveld in the book mm2. ‘For that purpose, I built a device that creates images by allowing light to act directly on the emulsion. There are no lenses in the device. The idea was to let the light seep in through very fine nooks and crannies, so that you get all kinds of visual effects by the scattering the light’.

‘First I had to test whether it would work at all, so I let the light pass through a crack and then went to the other side to check whether there was anything to see. Then I made a kind of optical bench with rails, a lamp, and a variety of devices with crevices that can rotate. Then it was a matter of lots of trial and error’. (Joost Rekveld)
